Coraline

I've been following this movie's news for a quite a while now, and I am happy to say the time to it being released to the public is coming sooner and sooner! It's ranked as high as the movie 9 in my MUST SEE MUST SEE MUST SEE MUST SEE movies.

The story of the movie is adapted from a book with a similar title. Although, I severly disaprove of movies whom were first introduced to the world on a different medium, be it a novel or a video game, Coraline is an exception simply for it being 100% hand-made. What I mean by that is everything you see in the movie has been created by hand, nothing has been digitally rendered.

Do not for one second be fooled by the whimsical and happy feel of the charecters and movies, Coraline was adapted from a horror novel =P

From the book's wiki:

"Coraline is a horror novella by British author Neil Gaiman, published in 2002 by Bloomsbury and Harper Collins. It was awarded the 2003 Hugo Award for Best Novella, the 2003 Nebula Award for Best Novella, and the 2002 Bram Stoker Award for Best Work for Young Readers. It has been compared to Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland because of its surrealism and plot based in an alternate-reality."

From the film's wiki:

"Coraline is an animated stop-motion horror fantasy film based on Neil Gaiman's novella of the same name. Directed by Henry Selick, it is scheduled to be released in theaters on February 6, 2009. It is rated PG for thematic elements, scary images, some language, and suggestive humor.

The film is about a young girl, Coraline (Dakota Fanning), who unlocks a mysterious door in her new home and enters into a parallel reality, a fantastical and thrilling imitation of her own dull life. In this world, Coraline finds a new version of her real mother (Teri Hatcher) and father (John Hodgman), her off-kilter neighbors, Miss Forcible (Dawn French), Miss Spink (Jennifer Saunders) and Mr. Bobinsky (Ian MacShane), and the Cat (Keith David). However, this other world soon begins to unravel and she becomes a prisoner to her Other Mother and must count on her resourcefulness, determination, and bravery to get back home."

Ofcourse, the book sounds a million times better. But common, it's stop motion animation, my love, MY PASSION! Sounds rather hypocritical, but meh =P

As I went though Coraline's official youtube channel, which btw has lots of behind the scenes videos on construction of the puppets and the animation process, I felt a huge longing to be one of those animator, building the tree, or animating one of the puppets *cries*

Phat: The director of this movie also directed Nightmare before Christmas as well as James and The Giant Peach. I love both movies, therefore am sure Coraline will be a masterpiece as well, even though it's no Disney =P

Animated movies FTW !!!!

Lily: If memory serves me right, you were the one who first introduced me to the movie, so thank you =P The movie 9 will be released after summer this year, but Coraline's release date is so soon YAY! xD

^ Lol tell me about it, my love for animation is being unabashedly teased by these two movies (not to to mention other movies such as Monsters versus Aliens. If you haven't seen the trailer yet, DO IT NOW!)

And also if you haven't checked it out yet Lily here's the original short animated version of 9 made back in 2005
